Munich Visit

Over the Christmas break we went to Austria but had a 2 day stop over in Munich first.

The flight from Heatrow was uneventful and got into Munich very easily. We picked up the rental car and the only problem driving I had was a wrong turn that took us away from Munich. A few miles down the road we were able to turn around and head in the right direction. We stayed at a Marriott hotel that had a pool and hot tub. We all enjoyed the hot tub!

For dinner our first night we went to the Haxnbauer for dinner. The restaurant is famous for serving pig's knuckles that they cook over a wood fire on a rotisseire grill. The pork was delicious. After dinner we pretty much headed back to the U-Bahn and back to our hotel.

There wasn't much time for sightseeing since we were only spending one full day in Munich. Our first stop after breaktfast was the Glockenspiel. We got there to see the 11:00 AM display. We walked down the street to the Asamkirche, a church build by the Asam Brothers between 1729 - 1733. The church is famous for the rococo style of architecture. It was very ornate inside and not very big.

The only other stop for the day was to the Deutsches Museum. It is perhaps the largest museum in the world and has exhibitions ranging from Chenistry, Industry, Space, etc. Anything to do with Science and Technology can pretty much be found there.

For dinner we want to the world famous Hofbrauhaus. It is a giant tourist trap but it was still alot of fun: the pretzels, the live German band, and the liters of beer!

Next Stop: Kirchdorf in Tirol, Austia
